about the event

Join us for an exclusive panel talk exploring AI/ML in Visuals!

The Creative Code Art Community and Hou2Touch school present a panel talk featuring practicing artists and experts discussing the advanced applications of AI in new media art creation.

about the creative code art

Creative Code Art unites digital artists and technologists, fostering connection through collaborative live events and virtual community challenges. Based in NYC and Iran, the collective builds inclusive spaces that empower BIPOC, Neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ creatives worldwide. Their expansive community of 100,000+ artists has evolved into a vibrant global network, earning recognition with their Telly Award-winning VR exhibition "Creative Code Festival," which showcased creators from 50 countries.

The collective strengthens creative bonds through their signature "& FRIENDS" event series, partnering with pioneering groups like Public Visuals, Livecode.nyc, and Co/Function. Through hands-on workshops in collaboration with HOU2TOUCH, they remain dedicated to dismantling barriers in creative technology, fostering connections between artists across borders.

Simone Franco

TouchDesigner Developer

TouchDesigner Developer with a background in sound engineering, acoustics, event production, and digital creativity. Born July 2, 1988, in Venice, Italy, I began as a sound technician, graduating from the Cinema Academy of Bologna with expertise in acoustics and studio construction. Early work included audio recording and designing treated spaces, later transitioning to event production in Venice, managing logistics for international teams in a water-bound city.

A decade ago, I moved to Berlin, co-founded Buena Onda, a jazz-focused recording studio. My passion for sound and technology led to a quadraphonic sound project, introducing me to TouchDesigner a pivotal discovery that reshaped my career.

At THE REED in Berlin, I honed my TouchDesigner skills, managing cutting-edge tech for innovative projects. Now a freelance developer, I’ve worked with Coca-Cola, FIFA, and ZKM, focusing on interactivity. As part of HOU2TOUCH, I explore cameras as ultimate interactive tools—at the cost of a sizzling GPU!

Erin Wajufos

Host

Erin Wajufos is a Brooklyn-based new media artist and community organizer who bridges the physical and digital art worlds through her work with Creative Code Art. As the platform's community administrator, she cultivates an inclusive space for emerging artists while showcasing her own practice in audio-reactive modular synthesis performances. Through her co-production of the "& FRIENDS" live event series, Wajufos creates immersive experiences that bring together local artists and audiences, strengthening Brooklyn's experimental arts scene. Her commitment to accessibility in new media art is reflected in the regular prompt challenges she curates for Creative Code Art, which provide opportunities for artists to develop their practice and gain visibility in the field.

Wajufos's dual role as artist and organizer exemplifies her vision of technology as a tool for community building. Her work deliberately breaks down barriers between digital and analog, virtual and physical space, established and emerging artists – fostering a more dynamic and accessible creative ecosystem.

Join Vadim Epstein as he explores AI/ML applications in visual arts and discusses recent innovations in the field.

Forkni (Alexander Korneev) will cover emerging approaches for incorporating AI tools into IMAG and VJ workflows, offering a look into the expanding possibilities of real-time visual content creation.

A camera can become an incredibly powerful sensor with the aid of AI tools like YOLO and Depth Anything. Using these processes, we can extract tangible data from images and leverage it for our interactive installations. Creating a detailed point cloud from an image or tracking a group of dancers has never been easier!

There are also other ways to use a camera as a sensor, such as with JavaScript libraries like ml5.js. These libraries operate as standalone solutions without requiring dependencies or specific environments. While they are less precise than AI tools like YOLO and currently don’t offer features such as "monocular depth estimation," they can still be effectively integrated into TouchDesigner using a simple custom HTML setup (easily generated with ChatGPT).

What possibilities do we have today? Is it truly worth using these AI tools, or are there other viable hardware alternatives? Let’s explore together!

Tym will present his case study of the Transmoderna concept show, focusing on system design and AI-based digital ecosystems for real-time audiovisual artistic expression.

In collaboration with SETUP design, Tym helped develop the project using two custom AI models in a real-time system that incorporated game engine and VR technologies.

Transmoderna—one of our most acclaimed shows of the AW21 season—merges electronic music with digital arts, creating an unparalleled audiovisual experience through a unique AI-based digital ecosystem at the Press Halls.
